Extra keys

Key - a small but very important element for the

security of a lock

When buying a lock, usually its mechanical properties like durability are considered, but as a rule not much attention is paid to the security and ease of use.

What should be considered when choosing keys?

One should consider security against copying, durability, size, ease of use and appearance.

Duplicating keys of more simple locks cannot be controlled and usually it is not necessary. But one should pay attention to the quality of duplicating the keys – an imprecise key of poor quality quickly spoils the lock, thus creating extra cost.

Size, ease of use and design are not directly connected with security, but who would like to carry a big, ugly and heavy key that is uncomfortable to use.

When keys are protected against duplicating, the locks are provided with a
safety card. key_card_abloy_novelKey duplicates can be ordered from reliable lock companies,
whose representative is obliged to check the safety card and its consistency with the key to be copied. Such protection mechanism ensures that no one can “borrow” your keys and makes duplicates of them.

Keys protected against duplicating have usually a more complicated patented profile and the lock cores are protected against lock picking or drilling.

Locking systems that need very high key control have a special key profile and duplicate keys can only be ordered from the factory that has produced the lock. Here special rules apply about having to provide proof of identity for duplicating keys. The rights and obligations are established in a contract between the owner and the lock producer.

In addition to mechanical keys also electronic keys are used. These have several advantages before mechanical keys.

We can say that the code of an electronic code lock can also be called a key. It is easy to carry on you and convenient to use. But it is also easy to pass the code on without leaving a trace.

An electronic key provides a more modern and secure solution with its programmed electronic identification code. The lock opens only with a key belonging to this locking system, having in addition to the right mechanical code also the right and valid electronic identification code. The aim of the electronic code is to make the key unique and enable an easy entry for the user.

The number of electronic codes is almost endless, so every lock and key is unique in the whole world.

Magnetic card that we use daily for making payments is also a key that for a brief moment opens our savings box to the shopkeeper. The same magnetic card can also be used for opening a door lock.

Electronic button key has recently started to spread more widely. Its unique safety code made it impossible to make duplicates until recently. By now there are devices for copying these keys and electronic button keys do not provide actual control over the keys.

The number of possible key combinations of button keys reaches over a million. The key is easy to use – you only need to press the tablet against the reader, and the code of the key is passed on to the control center. It is easy to programme the control center and add or remove keys.

Proximity card is a safe key with a high level electronic duplication protection and usage convenience. Depending on the type of the card, it operates at a distance from a few centimetres to several metres. Therefore it is not necessary to take the card out, it is enough to pass by the card reader at a certain distance.

The security of all the various locks and their keys depends above all on the user and his/her habits.

Therefore a few recommendations:

* Keys should never be passed on to strangers
* Keys should never be left without supervision into places, where they can be easily taken by strangers
* The pocket of a coat hanging on a coat rack is not a good place for the keys
* Keep the code of a code lock to yourself and protect the code panel from the eyes of strangers when entering the code
* Use a key cord or belt hook to prevent losing the keys

Whenever you have problems with locks or keys, we are sure to find a reasonable solution for you.
