Always lock your bicycle, also when keeping it at home, on the balcony or in the shed. The most secure way to lock your bike is to fix the lock through the frame or rear wheel and if the lock is long enough then through both of them. When locking your bicycle, make sure to leave as small space as possible between the lock and the bike. This way you make it difficult for the thief to cut the lock with pincers or power cutter.
